Hamilton County Clerk of Courts

The Hamilton County Clerk of Courts operates one of the most robust online search systems in Ohio. The records search offers multiple options. You can search All Courts, Criminal and Traffic, Common Pleas Civil, Municipal Civil, or Common Pleas Liens. Name searches are available across all divisions. Case number searches give you direct access to a specific file.

The Civil Division maintains records for lawsuits including personal injury cases, foreclosures, and business disputes. The office also records Ohio sales and income tax judgments for public record. Staff can issue Certificates of Judgment and subpoenas. The main office is at 1000 Main Street, Room 315, Cincinnati, OH 45202. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Common Pleas pleadings filed after 4:00 PM can be submitted at Room 112 of the Hamilton County Justice Center. This is handy if you need to file something late in the day. Background checks are only available in person at the Justice Center, Room 100, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Search Hamilton County Civil Court Records Online

The Clerk's online records search is free to use. You can search by name only across all court divisions. The system pulls up case lists with docket entries, filing dates, and case status. Pick the division that matches your search. Common Pleas Civil covers major lawsuits and foreclosures. Municipal Civil covers smaller claims and evictions. Common Pleas Liens shows judgment liens recorded in the county.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Clerk's office has noticed data mining efforts that have slowed down the redaction process. Because of this, you may need to submit a second request for some documents. Pursuant to Rule 45(C) of the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio, the Clerk is not required to offer remote access to every case file or document. Some records may only be available in person.

Hamilton County Probate Court Records

The Hamilton County Probate Court has its own online search tool. The Case Search provides an index of all probate cases except Marriage License and Mental Health cases. Click on "DETAIL" to view the case docket. From the docket, you can click "PDF" to view or print images of specific docket entries.

The Probate Court also offers specialized searches. The Marriage License Search has an alphabetical index of brides and grooms going back to January 1974. For older marriage records from 1808 to 1973, there is a separate Marriage License Archive Search. The Archive Search also includes records of estates, wills, trusts, guardianships, minister's licenses, birth records, death records, and naturalizations. The earliest records date from 1791.

Hamilton County Municipal Civil Court Records

The Hamilton County Municipal Court handles a massive volume of civil cases each year. The Civil Division processes over 35,000 civil suits and more than 12,000 evictions annually. The Criminal and Traffic Division processes over 50,000 traffic tickets yearly and 40,000 arrest warrants. The Auto Title Division issues over 420,000 titles each year.

Municipal Court hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Bond Services run 24 hours a day. Access Civil Court Records in Hamilton County

Under Ohio Revised Code Section 149.43, civil court records in Hamilton County are public. You do not need to state a reason for your request. The Clerk cannot require you to identify yourself or explain your purpose. Standard copy fees in Hamilton County follow Ohio guidelines, typically $0.25 per page for standard copies and $1.00 for certified copies.
