Findlay Civil Court Records and Ohio Law

Ohio's court records are governed by the Rules of Superintendence. Rule 26 sets minimum standards for how courts maintain and preserve their records. A court docket must include party names and addresses, attorney information with Supreme Court registration numbers, a chronological listing of all pleadings, and a list of all hearings and trials. Courts can keep records on paper, electronic media, or microfilm. Local courts can set longer retention periods but cannot shorten the statewide minimum.

The Findlay Municipal Court and Hancock County Common Pleas Court both follow these rules. Rule 45 governs public access. It requires clerks to provide prompt access to records while protecting confidential and exempt information.
